Soon after I joined the Highgate Allotment Association I told Jim that I worked in a school, he asked me to join him in showing around a group from our local school. This was well before the school had their own plot, and before the after school club started. I showed them various sites, including Margaret Jarvie’s bees, then (as instructed ) taking them to Jim’s plot last, where he demonstrated digging potatoes, and gave them a HUGE orange pumpkin to take for Harvest Festival at school. This was typical of his sense of the ties of community showed with his typical kindness and generosity. I am always grateful to have met him early in my time at the allotments, and seeing him continue working for the benefit of all right up till the end. We are very sorry to have to miss the funeral, we are travelling to Scotland on that day. Heartfelt condolences to his daughter Julie, you must be proud of him..
